Join us this November-January as we make our yearly trip to southeast Louisiana’s Biloxi Marsh to target giant redfish in shallow water with fly or light tackle. This area offers a true world class fishery for redfish and black drum that is just 45 minutes from the heart of downtown New Orleans. No other fishery will offer you the possibility of sightcasting to a record size red or black drum in clear shallow water on a daily basis. You can expect to see 20-40lb fish on a daily basis and will rarely see another boat. In the fall and winter months redfish move in the warm marsh from the Gulf of Mexico to feed. These fish are some of the most aggressive redfish you will ever see, and they will crush any fly or lure presented to them. Typically we only target the bigger adult fish, but if you want to catch big numbers of slot sized redfish we can also tuck into very shallow bays/ponds where countless numbers of these 2-10lb. fish can be found.
All fishing is done from a flats boat in clear shallow water. For fly fishing trips we use 9 and 10 weight rods with matching sized reels and floating fly lines. Flies are typically baitfish or shrimp patterns from 3-5 inches long in a variety of colors. Most any color will work but you can’t go wrong with black, purple, tan, white, chartreuse, or any combination of those colors. For conventional spin fishing trips we use 7’ medium heavy rods with matching reels and 20-30lb. braided line. We use artificial lures only, which usually consist of large soft plastic lures or topwater plugs. All rods, tackle, and fishing equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring any rods/equipment you would like to use.
There are a few different options for lodging. Some anglers choose to stay down closer to the fishing area in which there are RV/camper rentals. This puts you 5 minutes from the boat ramp but doesn’t offer any restaurants which would require you to cook. The other option would be to stay in Chalmette or New Orleans and take advantage of the great hotels, restaurants, and nightlife. It is an easy 45 minute drive from downtown New Orleans to the boat ramp. Feel free to give me a call anytime and I would be more than happy to help with lodging questions/logistics.
If you have more than two anglers we can arrange another boat and guide that will fish the same area.
